Project overview
The European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), part of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), require large hotels to comply with structured ESG reporting by 2026. As a sustainability hub for the travel industry, we needed to integrate ESRS compliance into our platform, enabling customers to:
Customize compliance topics
Delegate reporting tasks across teams
Generate structured reports with key metrics
My contribution
User Research & Discovery:
Conducting interviews with sustainability managers and compliance officers to understand their workflow and pain points.UX & Interaction Design:
Designing a clear and intuitive experience, ensuring users could easily customize, delegate, and track their compliance progress.Collaboration with Engineers & PMs:
Working closely with Engineering and Product Management to ensure feasibility, define MVP scope, and iterate on early feedback.Testing & Iteration:
Running usability tests with early adopters, refining the navigation, reporting structure, and customization features based on real-world usage.
Challenges
Tight Timeline for MVP Delivery:
The initial phase had to be delivered within a short window, allowing customers to test the feature early, provide feedback, and plan their compliance roadmap before the regulations took effect.User Adoption & Unfamiliarity
Many users had no prior experience with ESRS, requiring us to design an intuitive interface and iterate based on user feedback.Defining Must-Have Features
At the start, some key requirements were unclear, meaning we had to work closely with customers, iterate quickly, and adapt to evolving needs.
